Here is a list of pre-release and unused content in Thomas & Friends: Racing around Sodor.
Flying Scotsman as a NPC
During game development, Flying Scotsman was originally going to appear as a non-playable character in the game, but DonaldDouglasandOliver11 wanted him to be a playable character, so in the final, Flying Scotsman appears as a playable character only in Vicarstown.
Jerome and Judy
Jerome and Judy were originally going to appear in the game in the level Tidmouth in Winter as non-playable rolling stock, but they never appeared in the level in the final game. Although, they were later added with the Christmas 2016 update.
As seen in an E3 demo, Emily's Coaches could be seen at the platform in Knapford Station on The Main Line instead of the red branch line coaches meaning that they were originally going to appear in the game.
The oil tankers that appeared in the level The Main Line were originally meant to have their logo from the model series, but the logo was changed to it's CGI form in the final version of the game.
The green metal bars on Knapford Station's canopy roof were silver instead of green. This was fixed in the final version.
In an E3 demo, James appears in The Main Line, instead of Philip, although, James hasn't been downloaded to the level in the demo, as a video of the demo shown an icon of James on Level 3's building instead of Philip meaning that James was originally going to be a character that appeared in a level rather than being downloadable. Also, two of Emily's coaches can be seen at the platform in Knapford station instead of the red branch line coaches, although, they don't appear in the final version of the game.
Also, the levels had some differences unlike their appearance in the final version, These differences are:
- Tidmouth in Winter didn't have Dryaw station.
- The Main Line had Wellsworth instead of the Sodor Dairy.
- Edward's Branch Line had Suddery station.
- The Little Western didn't have Arlesburgh Sheds and the Town Square.
- Sodor China Clay Company didn't exist yet.
- Ulfstead Castle's mine entrance was open.
- Vicarstown didn't have Vicarstown Dieselworks.
- Skarloey Railway didn't exist yet.
In an early screenshot, an unknown level which has Farmer McColl's farm appears, it is unknown what the level that Farmer McColl's farm is was called and it is also unknown why the level didn't make it in the final cut.
